You may also want to turn off software as a service if you use subscription licenses and want to install Wowza as a standalone application. The standalone mode is also great for enabling Transcoder with accelerated hardware on Windows.
Adaptive bitrate streaming
Adaptive bitrate streaming can optimize video quality and viewer experience. It can be delivered through HTTP, MPEG DASH, Apple HLS, and many other protocols. It was the go-to method for streaming over the Internet in the early days.
It allowed for lightning-fast video delivery but encountered issues when it came to getting past firewalls. This is because RTMP streams are encoded at a lower bit rate than the intended audience. RTMP streams are also delivered through a dedicated streaming server.
Using Wowza Streaming Engine for Windows, you can enable adaptive bitrate streaming for YouTube videos. It detects the bandwidth and CPU capacity of the viewers and adjusts its bitrate accordingly.
Dynamic playlists enable customers to customize playlists that are updated in real-time on the website. Unlike static playlists, dynamic playlists require no changes in your website code. You can also publish videos to Facebook, Periscope, Twitch, and Youtube using the same embed code.
Amazon EC2 instance
In order to connect to an Amazon EC2 instance for Wowza Streaming Engine for Windows, you will need to purchase one using your AWS credentials. Once you’ve purchased one, you can choose whether to purchase a BYOL or PAID instance.
Next, select the appropriate instance type by selecting the Choose an AMI tab. When the installation process is complete, a green banner will appear with the spinning Wowza logo.
Once you’ve decided to use an Amazon EC2 server, you’ll need to connect to it with the public domain name and the instance ID. This information will help you determine the correct configuration for your streaming server.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to configure your Wowza Streaming Engine to connect to Amazon EC2 servers. You can also choose to use the CloudFront distribution to pull HTTP chunks from the Wowza Streaming Engine server. This distribution uses the ec2 module and also adds a startup script to run a simple HTTP server at startup.
